A short GIF I created at Mighty Oak to celebrate the announcement of free tampons in NYC schools and homeless shelters.
The United States spends $80 billion on incarceration a year, and yet more than half of people who leave prison return there within 5 years. Which brings us to ask the question, why do we incarcerate people in the first place? This question is what drives Vera Institute of Justice. Their mission is to urgently build and improve justice systems that ensure fairness, promote safety, and strengthen communities. And as advocates for social justice reform, we were honored to partner with Vera on a video that would raise awareness about our current system and ask us to reimagine the prison experience in the United States.
Since the narrative focused on transforming our incarceration system, we chose an artistic approach that would also provide a transformative opportunity. Using a hand-drawn approach, animator Catherine Mehringer was able to humanize the story through abstract shapes and delicate silhouettes to create a broader picture. The response was well received. In its first 24 hours, #Reimagineprison was shared thousands of times by organizations, celebrities, and activists including the ACLU, Judd Apatow, and Ava Duverney. Even Justin Bieber gave his approval. There may never be a better time to rethink our incarceration programs than now, and we are humbled to be part of the conversation. To learn more, visit reimagine.vera.org, and let’s #Reimagineprison.

Just a fun flower GIF.
When it comes to plant design, no one does it better than our friends at The Sill. Founder Eliza Blank started The Sill just a few years ago with the hopes of inspiring people to bring more of the outdoors inside. Since then, her company has 'grown' leaps and bounds, opening a storefront in Chinatown, shipping nationwide, collaborating with shops like Madewell and West Elm, and even supplying the succulents for Creative Producer Jess's wedding (clearly their shining moment.)
We had the great opportunity to animate a selection of Instagram videos for this amazing little shop, using stop motion animation to give each plant -- especially the littlest ones -- personalities of their own. This resulted in three really fun videos, and some of The Sill's most popular Facebook commercials to date.

This is a short film co-directed with Kaija Siirala. In 2015, it received a National Board of Review Award.
At a time when polarizing politics make us question the world's love for humanity, there is Chula the Clown. Hailing from Mexico City, Gaby Munoz, otherwise known as Chula, has spent over a decade working alongside other clowns in refugee camps and areas affected by conflict. This short film takes a look into the beautiful universe that Chula creates, and asks us to explore how we connect with each other.
